FW07: Waistcoats
So waistcoats/vests have been around for a while, but it must be one of those things that grows on you because now that I've seen so many people on the streets and on tv wear it, I really want one!
Luckily for me, judging from the Phillip Lim 3.1 (left) and Alice + Olivia (rght) catwalk above, the waistcoat trend is still here with us this season.
So I started out looking for one and almost bought this very classic tweedish one (right) from Urban Outfitters the other day. As far as waistcoasts go, this would match with a lot of outfits and the fit was pretty decent. I think the back is also a black satinish material, which I thought was interesting. Only downside was that the tweed material was really rough and since this waistcoast was not on sale, I didn't think it was worth the $42. They need to consider repricing UO...... On the other side of the Atlantic, we have this other classic waistcoat (left) from Top Shop.
Another very classic option for waistcoats are pinstriples (they are a derivative of suits/tux after all). I like these two from Alice + Olivia (left) and Top Shop (right). Though the Alice + Olivia one while more fitted looking (since the model is wearing it) might have a bit too much detail (pockets and collar) for me. I think I prefer something cleaner, since for me, a waistcoat IS a detail and it IS already striped....
Something more interesting, we have these two from Top Shop. Not too sure how flattering the blue one would be (left) but I LOVE the military inspired one (right).
Something more party-ish, we have these colorful shiny options from UO (left) and Vena Cava (right)- a great way to add some character to your party outfit. Though I think for satin, the cutting is very important and you can already see thee poor cutting from the picture here for UO (I do like the color though)- so be careful!

Ah, waistcoats. I was hoping this trend would die out soon. It's getting so ubiquitous and boring. Everyone on the street is wearing one. Though, the blue Topshop one has an unique detail. Other than that, love the blog!
I bought a waistcoat a couple of years ago from H&M not expecting to wear it that much, but I definitely do!! It's much like the black military topshop one. They're great for adding a different swing to dresses, to jazz up plain t-shirts, to add a waist (mine's really fitted) and to give you another layer!! Love it.
i liked waistcoats when the trend was just picking up, but now it's so ubiquitous i'm getting bored...and it's a bit hard to wear without totally looking like a trend follower..having said that, i recently saw someone wearing a waistcoat that has no back, so it's kind of a halter top, with just a thin band across the back...which i thought looked quite cool!

trust me its a sad trend now,am staying in dubai doing a project ,EVERYONE IS WEARING IT AROUND...its a taste of a fashion victom, who jus want to wear whatever is in trend.dont dont,if u wear buy something unique like this anonymous person said about it being like a halter....dont wear the vintage waist coat...its jus getting up on my nerves.
These are back again??
i donno there sort of getting boring and also it not original anymore. but thats just one's opinion of thought<3

I think they are a great idea. I have one that I wear with vintage tee's and fitted jeans and it looks very hip. You can use them to dress up or dress down an outfit.
They are here to stay!
i think vests, as they are usually called in the us, are very cute, useful and classic. i prefer a solid, tweed or even a plaid over the stripes, though, because the stripes seem like part of a suit, but that could be the appeal for someone else. i also prefer a matching back to the satin back. you have shown some cute ways to wear them; especially like them with the wide leg pants! nips in the top to contrast with the volume of the pants

I like the military-ish Topshop one too. I just never end up wearing vests cause they're a little useless, but they can look nice when done right. I just got one from SJP's Bitten line that I'm trying to work into my wardrobe.

ooooh! i am so into vests. This masculine look can be made feminine and I love layering them. I am dying to try wearing just a vest and a bra. Maybe when spring rolls around I will try it! My Fashion Blog
Hi!
I recently bought myself a dark blue denim waistcoat. But instead of buttons, it has a long brown suede string which you have to lace through the holes provided (kinda like a corest)! I thought it would look slutty at first, but it looks oh-so-chic with pretty much everything!
I’ve just started my own fashion related blog and need all the support I can get!
Here is the link: http://shredz.blogspot.com/
I was wondering if we could do a link swap and if you could add me to the list of blogs on your page?
I’ve already added you to my favs :)
Keep up the great work!
Thanks (and please reply back)

i hate when waistcoats are worn in a sexy manner. it should be casual and comfort with a little edge

i have a vest i got from good will for 3 bucks. the front is black and polka dot (very small pattern) and the back is black. it is silk and very fitted so i wear it on the weekends when i go out usually. i usually wear a sheer black top underneath that's longer than the vest. a bit dressy but not overboard. i get compliments every time i wear it, and i got it for so cheap. can't get any better than that. i would definitely recommend trying to find a trend at a thrift store as many of the trends have a bit of versatility that can be applied.
Just one word : awesome, keep them coming
