My makeup-'fast'

Last December, I looked my makeup collection and did a little self-evaluation. Question: Have I used any of my eye shadows enough to justify buying them? Well let's see, I own about five eye shadow palettes, but truthfully I used eye shadow only like 10 times last year. Clearly I don't really need that many eye shadow palettes, let alone new ones that I would be buying in the near future.

So ever since last December, I have put myself on a 6-month-makeup-'fast', which means that I have been refraining from buying any new makeup. This not only means that I could save some money for something I would potentially more useful, but it also forces me to actually finish off some of the makeup I already own.

I currently own four lip glosses, which even though I know is not a lot compared to many girls, but I really wanted to make use of them and not let them go to waste. So it's no surprise one of the first makeup I have rediscovered from my makeup collection is a lip gloss by Bloom called 'Kissable'. 'Kissable' is a pale pinkish-nude color with shimmers. I really like this color and the texture of the gloss itself, but I must complain: if you leave the bottle of lip gloss lying horizontal for long enough, it freakin' leaks! So now I can only apply this gloss before I go out, but not take it out with me.

As a girl who really likes pretty things, not being able to buy makeup is a bit of a bummer. But when Barneys Girl stayed at my London place last week, she unexpected bought me a little gift in the form of the new Benefit mini-set: Realness of Concealness, which includes mini vials of ooh la lift, lip plump, high beam and mini pans of lemon-aid & boi-ing. This is an excellent set for anyone (like me) who is interested in trying out Benefit cosmetics but never wanted to pay to try out only one product. At US$28, this set is totally worth it since it will probably last quite a while. I still haven't tried out the products yet, but it has certainly made me feel less devoid of new makeup.

So far, this makeup-'fast' has been easier than I thought, and my conscience is certainly feeling better from all the old makeup I am making an effort to use. Perhaps it is time for you to think about doing a little self-evaluation too!

I agree about needing a makeup fast, I am always a sucker for the gift-with-purchase events, even though I barely use any of the "feebies" anyways.

I've been cutting back, too, trying to buy only what I really need, which right now would be a good mascara. I have 8 single eye-shadows, 3 duos, 2 cream eye-shadows, 4 eyeliners, 6 lipsticks, 2 lipliners, 4 blushes, a liquid foundation, a solid foundation, and three powders, plus a few eyebrow pencils and two tubes of dried up mascara.

lemon-aid is actually a pretty good product. while i think the application isn't as smoothe as other products, it works pretty well with lighter-toned asian skin.

I buy plenty of stuff, forget about it, and by the time I've found it again it's gone off. I had some Bobbi Brown eye shadow, which I left at home, by the time I got back you opened it and it just fell out - it wasn't sticking, the cheaper eye shadows tend to age better (and by age I mean 6 months, not even a few years)for me... odd.

Eye shadows are my weakness, there's just so many colors-i want them all! I used to have none and now I have too many. And they never go bad! I've had this pink eye shadow from Cle de peau for over 3 years now and it still works perfectly. My smashbox set for over 2 years. MAC for almost 2 years. And I inevitably buy really similar colors too! LOL. I should stop.

i have the same thing with barneys girl... for me it is green and pink eye shadows in every possible shades... and somehow i end up almost never using them...

same thing with the lip glosses... i'm addicted to buying lancome's juicy tubes in every colour, but i only use neutregena lip moisturizer...

and red nail polish, though i always use what the manicurist has as a polish...

apperantly i also need a make-up fast, since the only products i use religiously are concealers and pressed powders... but somehow, this post made me buy more make-up, including that benefit palette...

I've been on a makeup fast for about a year now. I don't even miss the makeup shopping at all. There were so many things I had that I totally forgot about. That was definitely a wake up call for me.

I have so much makeup too, I need to just stop until I am able to get rid of old products I'll never use and try to make a dent in the ones I do use. I am pretty indiscriminate I like drugstore and department store. I'm literally drowing in my makeup and whenever I'm bored I go shopping through my stashes and it's like brand new products. Especially with perfume, and scented lotions, it bugs me having them accumulate, b/c they take up a lot of space, and they possibly spoil a lot faster. SIGH, I'll have to do a haul or at least give some away before anything new comes in!!
