Bobbi Brown Nail Polish SS07

Last weekend while the makeup lady at MAC was trying on loads of eye shadow colours on my sister, I wondered over to the Bobbi Brown counter and fell in love with the BB salesgirl's makeup. She had a 'light' (as in not as dramatic as most of MAC's salespeople's makeup,) smokey eye. She proceeded to try it on me but they were out of a certain shimmery, creamy eye shadow base so the eye shadow didn't look at all impressive on me, (or maybe it's just that the salesgirl was really pretty herself -that is so unfair!)

Next I noticed her nails and loved the colour. They were a lovely milky, white-ish, pinkish, champagne colour. They were exactly what I was looking for -something milky, but not plain white or pink. But I didn't realise Bobbi Brown made nail polishes at that point so I didn't ask her where she got her nail polish from. Later on, a friend told me Bobbi Brown did actually make nail polish so I decided to head to another Bobbi Brown counter in the hopes that the salesgirl's nail polish was from BB. After looking through the six shades, half of which were already out of stock, I guessed it was Tutu.

Since I have zero skills in painting nails, I got someone to do it for me while getting a facial. The results were... a bit more pink than I anticipated. Now that I've had time to accustome myself to painted nails, I suppose they don't look as pink as they first looked. Actually I think I may be starting to like the colour! (Haha sorry, this is my 28 hours of thoughts after getting my nails done.)

The one really big thing I must complain however is that BB nail polish seems to chip REALLY easily. Admittedly, I've got three layers on because I wanted the colour to completely cover up my nails so maybe the polish on my nails is really thick. But I've been pretty careful about using my fingers in the past day and it's not like I'm doing any nail-polish-chipping activities. (Although did you know msn-ing people is terrible for your nail polish? Too much constant typing!) BG justifies the chipping to me as "Bobbi Brown isn't exactly known for their nail polish". I know but still, I expected more from the brand and the price! Oh well.

Nail-painting is such an irritating and time-consuming activity, who know? No wonder I only ever experiment with nail polish during school holidays! Please let me know what other nail polish brands chip or scratch easily so we can all avoid them!

I paint my nails every week and I even bought the Beauty Bible Book and went throught their list of nail polish brands. They said Chanel made the best but I found that Chanel Nail Polish
got dull and chippy! If your looking for cheep but good nail polish I would recommend Sally Hansen sold at drug stores and if you want to spend a little more I would say OPI by far! I hope this helps!

i agree - chanel nailpolish is the WORST for chipping etc. it looks really good for one day and then it just chips easily and makes your nails look horrible (which is such a shame because the nailpolish bottles are adorable!)

i've found boujois nailpolish to be wonderful, and even revlon is alright. sally hansen nailpolish is also great.

I am bordering on a nail polish addict I realized when I stumbled upon a shade of neutral pinkish pale a friend of mine had on at the pool.. She gave the bottle to me which was OPI Tutti Frutti Tonga, is my absolute favorite and have had it on since. If you want a GREAT red, also I recommend Matador Red by OPI. OPI is great for not chipping and staying on for a long time, I have noticed the color may get a bit dull if you push it past say the two week mark.

OPI and Essie brands have both lasted on my nails for 10-14 days. Love them both!

I'm putting a word in for OPI, too (great stuff). Also, if your nails are weak (like mine), I use Sephora brand (which is super cheap- less than ten bucks). it is so easy to put on, plus it's a nail hardener/strengthener (which is good because my nails chip all the time). Seriously, I've been using it all summer.

Even though I don't paint my nails often, OPI is definitely my fav brand. But sometimes, it's just fun to try out different brands, thus this post. What other brands have you used??

OPI is sold at nearly any beauty supply store/nail salon in the states, but I'm not sure how it is outside of the U.S. It is $6 a bottle and totally worth it!

I just bought a bottle of white sally hanson diamond strength nail polish today. I hope it will last! I prefer to get a lot of cheap nailpolish than fewer bottles of expensive brands, but maybe if I get more expensive polish it will last longer...

I just got a manicure for a friend's wedding almost two weeks ago, and I noticed the manicurist used Orly Bonder rubberizing basecoat. I'd never seen that before, so I asked her about it. Apparently it dries to a grippy rubbery finish, so it grabs onto your nail polish and your nails won't chip for two weeks. and she's absolutely right! my nails have a little wear (it has been 12 days) but no chips! I just bought a bottle for myself.

That's weird, I left a comment earlier and now it's not here. Anyway, I said I like Dior polishes, they don't chip until after a week or two of wear.

I also said that OPI nailpolish is good, but I don't use it anymore because of the carcinogenic substances that are in their nailpolishes.

Actually, OPI doesn't have those carcinogenic substances anymore.

OPI has great staying power but strangely a bottle can't seem to last past the one-year mark before getting too sticky to use! (or am I too particular?) any recommendations on polishes that last long??

I think everything holds so much better when I use Essie's 3 way glaze as basecoat and topcoat. Even really dark polish like Chanel's Rouge Noir stays parfait for 4 days (ok so no 7 days). Combined with a more neutral nail colour like Essie's Sugar Daddy or Chanel's Ballerina, I keep my nails in good manicure form for at least week - I do wear gloves when doing dishes etc.

Hands down, my favorite nail polish brands are Sally Hansen and OPI; Sally Hansen meets my 'i'm at the drug store or grocery shopping and somehow wander into the beauty section' nail polish craving and OPI is definitely worth the money and satisfies my 'oh i'm at the nail salon and love this shade and i have to get this color' craving. haha.

OPI is my absolute favourite. You can't beat it for quality and application. Am never without Essie Mademoiselle either though I find some other Essie polishes quite streaky. Also swear by Seche Vite top coat.

I love the shade! I have a similar polish, well it looks similiar when it's in the bottle but when I put it on my nails it's really light. I guess I'll have to put a one or two more layers on.
OPI nail polishes are my favourite, I strongly recommend them.

PS. I love your blog !

I really like OPI's bubble bath. Having played around with a bunch of their lighter pinks I have to say it's my favourite shade. You should definitely give it a try.

i haaate OPI nail polish... my fave is def ESSIE... and then Duri.
Rejuvacote by Duri is the best base/nail strengthener.
I recently also bought a YSL nail polish.... and oh man it dries so fast you can seriously put it on and walk out the door.

I used to never paint my nails because no matter what I used it would in chip 2-3 days. Then I found Revlon ColorStay. I can get 5-7 days out of it. Not a huge choice in color, so I'll even use it as a base coat for my MAC polish. It's cheap enough to give it a try anyway.

spending money on high-end nail polish(such as chanel) doesnt seem reasonable to me.. i just buy 5 colors i like from the cheapest brands (about $1 each), unfortunately those brands are specific to Turkey. This way, i can just throw the bottle away when it even starts getting sticky. They dont chip either, i have been wearing mine for 6 days now, and i have done some woodworking with sandpaper, and they still look ok except the top bits and the fact that my nails are grown.. learn to paint your own nails and do it in every 4 days so they'll always be perfect..

Oh and more on Revlon nail polishes: The nail polish in the bottles get really thick really quickly even when you're just quickly painting nails. If you're doing it yourself and take over 10 mins to do one hand, by the time you finish the consistency will be as thick as syrup. I have one from Max Factor called Earth Stone- its really sheer and needs at least 2 layers, and it starts chipping AND fading after day 2. If anyone knows of a GOOD brand that has red and doesn't fade nor chips within 4 days (and affordable)please let me know!!!
