Revlon Lash Jewels

The first time I saw the ad for the Revlon Lash Jewel in the mags, I thought, "Wow, they really are starting to run out of ideas. What are they going to come up with next?"

Because really, as pretty as the ad looks, why would you want to have drops of crystally things on your lashes. It doesn't really enhance your lashes to make it more dramatic or any longer. In fact, one would imagine that the extra weight will weigh down your lashes!
Despite my rationale however, I decided to give it a try anyway. I mean, who am I to argue against a whole team of Revlon product developers and researchers who probably spent hours and hours working on this product? So I carefully dripped the clear gel liquid onto my lashes trying VERY hard to get even droplets and ...... that sit! Its basically applying clear gel onto your lashes and the gel basically just stays there...like glue. It does not crystallize and shine or anything. Just sticks there like a blob of glue. And if you want it off, you can literally just pluck it off your lashes, like it was a piece of dirt. And my mom told me it looked like a piece of dirt too!

So in conclusion, it was impossible to handle and make even blobs of "jewels" on your lashes AND to top it off, the "jewel" turns out to look like blobs of glue. Needless to say, I am unimpressed. I stand by my initial reaction to this product.

The ad looks gorgeous, but imagining how you described it, it sounds sort of disgusting...:(

That's pretty funny. Really, what were they thinking. It seems like such a "I'm twelve years old" kind of thing to do. Er, nothing against twelve-year olds though.

Actually did Dior not have something like this a few winters ago?

ooooooh....I really wanted to try this too since I saw it in a Nylon a few months ago. I imagine it takes more patience than a saint to get it to look like the editorial did. Then again, it is midly pointless, we should all just get fabulous fake eyelashes instead. Come to think of it, dont they sell eyelashes with little thingies like that already on them?

It never seizes to amaze me how some make-up ads (especially those for eye make-up and mascara) look so much better than the actual product itself.

@Eli: Actually, yeah, they do make fake eyelashes with jewel-like things attached. At least those really do look like jewels and are a heck of a lot better looking that those glue-like blobs described in blog entry.

I actually tried this product on my sister and after one practice, I managed quite easily to get results just like the advertisement... it looked fabulous. The shoplady at the Revlon counter tried to do apply it to my lashes and ended up putting huge globs of gel all over my face which just looked crap! So I guess you have to have a practice first and try it a few ways! If you do it the right way it can look awesome but its obviously not something you'd wear everyday so theres not much point dishing out that much money...

Two faced sells these lash gems as well. I think this product is totally unrealistic because any girl knows that it's impossible to get your lashes in that sort of perfect condition to have the gems actually look good. false eyelashes w/ gems already attached or a shimmery eyeshadow or eyeliner is def. a better buy.

Japan actually has this kind of product a long time ago! But it's actually not like glue and works fine...without having to put too much effort into trying to get every droplet perfect...

They would never turn out like that! Nothing like that ever works like it should. It's impossible to put on fake eyelashes, let alone other random things on the tip of your lashes! It would just end up in one clumpy mess, and even if it does work, it does not look good.

I personally always thought the idea of enhancing your eyelashes, either through mascara to volumise, lengthen, curl etc... or through eyelash extentions, or eyelash tinting was to open up the eye. Therefore, making your eyes appear brighter and also make a person appear more alert.

It seems questionable as to whether actually adding 'crystals', or rather, 'blobs of glue' to your eyelashes would look attractive at all. -Would it not just draw attention to the fact you have these 'things' on your eyelashes? Meaning, that you wouldn't have the focus on your eyes; a person could spend most of their time staring at your eyelashes.

However, the idea of crystals on your eyelashes sounds beautiful in theory though; it reminds me of dew on grass, on early Spring mornings. But in my own opinion, I just don't think that the actual process of applying this mascara would bring such a beautiful effect as its potential inspiration.

I've seen jewels applied on the TOP of the eyelashes near where they attach to the lid, so you can just see them shimmer slightly when you blink. Soooo pretty.

I haven't quite decided how I feel about jewel lashes. I think they definitely look cool but you definitely have to have the right event to wear them to. I think for now I will just stick to my paraben free cosmetics.
