SS07 Trend: Peep Toe Shoes

As I am sure most of you have noticed by now, peep toe shoes are all the rage this season. After many months, I finally hoppped onto the peep toe wagon as well.

Not so much because I was thinking about this trend too much, but more because I was waiting for them to go on sale. As most of my friends know, I've been lusting after this pair of Marc by MJ peep toes for MONTHS, because its so simple and elegant and the height looks just perfect. At some point I was going to give up, because my mom told me that white patent will go yellow after some time. But in the end, I FINALLY caught them at half price and got them. And I'm LOVING them. Except I accidentally dented the heel a bit at the back recently and patent leather is not really fixable :(

For other simple, summery and elegant choices, I am loving these pairs from Aldo (left) and Steve Madden (right). Especially the Steve Maddens. My friend has the similar Marc by MJ slip ons and it looked SO GORGEOUS!

After my shoe drought of the past few months, I started REALLY getting into peep toes...especially with the amazing sales going on around me. I bought a pair of black patent wedges similar to these Aldo (left) ones here with the cross in the front. They are soo cute and very similar to these ones at Chanel which is waaay out of my budget. I love the cross thing because it adds a bit of a twist to the simple wedges, unfortunately though, it also pinches and hurts in the front, so I'm still trying to wear them out. For something just as simple but interesting, I like these flats from Steve Madden (right). Except make sure you get the right size, there is nothing more unflattering then too much feet peeping out at the toe.

For the night, I love these peep toes from Jean-Michel Cazabat (left) and Aldo (right), and I don't even generally like snake skin. But in this instance, they just seem so appropriate for this style!

But alas, I guess I will always go for the classics. I ADORE these pair of sexy black peep toe sling backs by Jimmy Choo (Left). And then there are these gorgeous red heels by Oh..Deer (right). They even have a red sole, so you can pretend they are Louboutins!

Quick question for you working girls out there. Googling up "Business Casual" and "Office Clothes," I found this list of tips from about.com, and it said that "any shoe with an open toe are not acceptable in the office." Do you agree? Does that completely rule out peep toe shoes, even though they look perfectly demure and acceptable to me? i.e. my pair of white Marc by MJ's...

they are very cute, but most offices (or that I've worked at) expressly ban open toed shoes, including peep toes. but sometimes I rebel anyway, especially with opaque hose on.

hmmm i've worked in two different offices. one was business but sandals and such were still ok to wear. and now i work in a casual/business casual environment and open toed shoes is perfectly fine. flip flops or sneakers are a no-no but everything else is game. i would think peep toes are fine

I recently went for a Business Etiquette workshop and was told that although peep-toe shoes (sling-back or covered back; no slip-ons or wedges) are alright for everyday business wear, in a strictly formal business meeting/setting, only covered toe shoes are considered proper.

I love peep toe shoes!!! I practically live in them. Confession- I go a while in between pedicures and peep toe shoes are great cover ups. They let enough of your toes show through to be sexy, but nobody can see that you are in need of a pedi. I work in a professional office environment and my peep toe shoes are perfectly acceptable. If they weren't then I would just have to tell my boss where to go... ha ha ha. Love the shoes you posted!

I have worked at two different universities, and I have never been told that I couldn't wear open-toed shoes. But then again, I frequently wear flip flops to work, and I figure that I can get away with it since I'm 25. Business casual depends largely upon the specific office - trying to define it accross companies or regions is impossible.

I didn't like peep toes originally, but I found a pair that I really liked for my college graduation last December (I also didn't like wedges, which they also are, but the wedge comes in at the back and sides making it very delicate).

I think the secret to wearing peeps in general is to make sure that it doesn't look like your one big toe it sticking out like a camel's toe or like your foot is giving someone the 'finger'. Make sure that your toe doesn't hang over the tip of the shoe for starters (a good idea when wearing any type of shoe). Importantly, though, I think it helps to wear peep toes that shoe at least part of the next toe so that the one big toe doesn't look lonely. (And ladies, please make sure that one big toe looks great - pedicured, polished, and without any visible toe hair).

I definitely agree with above comments - whether or not you can wear peep toes to the office depends entirely on the specific place. I've worked a few different office jobs and each one has had different limits. I'm at a law firm now where I wear flip flops and flats almost every day. My last job allowed sandals but they had to have a back strap.

My office is fine with open toes shoes like sandals and peep-toes except when meeting external parties like clients.

I rather the "peep" toes than the pow, there are my toes shoes. I think just two toes constitute peep. What do you think?

I work at a law office (typically one of the more stodgy types of office) but people wear flip-flops and jeans half the time! Since I'm the newest and the youngest, I keep it to ballet flat and slacks usually, but every once in a while I go with the sandals and dark jeans.

Last month I went to this vintage shop right near my house and bought these AMAZING pair of yellow lace peep-toe stilettos. They're really pretty and sweet-and because of that the stilettos don't look slutty. ;)

I'm sooo happy with them!

I certainley do not agree!! I live in my peep toed heels. I feel so much more 'sexier' in them - they effect the way I walk, and hold myself and everything!! Am very mad with the lack of summer at the moment in UK as I cant wear them as much as I would like though

I have recently fall victim to the peep-toe craze and I LOVE almost all peep-toed shoes. I got these totally adorable peep toe pumps (http://www.barefoottess.com/OnlineStore/FinalClearance/Tyl-Rumba-Egpl/) the other day on sale for only $25! I love when I find a good bargain!!

Hey!

I have been reading you blog over the last few weeks and think quite highly of it. I am an Indian lady who wears sarees quite often. Google the same and you will get a billion results if you do not know what a saree is. I was wondering if I could wear a peep toe with a saree. Also since I do not wear heels which are more than 2 inches high, I am not sure I have many options. Please help me with this...Do you get peep toes with block heels less than 2 inches in height?

Thanks

I am a fellow peep toe lover and a business professor. However, I do not think it is appropriate to wear any kind of open toe shoes to work.
I require my students to demonstrate their professional business attire on a regular basis. My students are often confused and dress business casual instead. So to add clarity I tell them that any open toe, even just a peep toe does not qualify as formal business attire. Maybe some interpretations of business casual would allow them, but that (like many have stated above) is on a situation by situation basis.
So... I would like to offer up a warning to not wear those hot peep toe shoes to an interview or formal business meeting or you will risk not being taken seriously (and/or not getting the job, promotion, etc). Once you have settled into a job you will see the corporate culture and what is acceptable. Note: Just because some people get away with something in an office setting does not mean you should too. It is best to follow the lead of people who are higher up the corporate ladder then you are. Afterall, there are plenty of opportunities to wear those sexy shoes that you don't need to risk your career progress just to wear them more often.

Hey great article! I work in a business casual environment but we don't have any strictly enforced rules about what "business casual" means specifically other than no worn jeans (black and white are acceptable) or spaghetti straps may be worn. I wear open toed shoes and sandals all the time and have yet to have anyone say anything to me. I really don't see why peep toes should be a problem unless you were in a completely professional uppity-type meeting. Even then, if everything else checked out I'd still probably wear them. I live in Florida so it gets hot as hell here and as someone else mentioned earlier, if someone did tell me I couldn't I'd probably tell them exactly where they could shove it... Good luck with your shoes!
